Pleasantly surprised by Shaan Indian Cuisine, a small Indian restaurant located in a strip mall area on Lake Mary blvd. My husband and I came here on a quiet Friday night to relax for dinner. The lighting was really dim "mood lightning" and candles on all the tables were glowing. I was already loving this atmosphere. I ordered the tandoori chicken with medium spice and my husband tried the lamb curry. I also ordered the garlic naan. The menu had an impressive list of naan options, but our server nicely mentioned that the garlic naan was the most popular. It was so good, I wished I had ordered two! The tandoori chicken was really aromatic and it came out steaming and sizzling on a metal plate. The steam was a bit overwhelming to the senses since it was so spicy, but once it cooled down it was great, a really flavorful dish. I'm not a fan of lamb, but my husband really enjoyed the lamb curry. The basmati rice was super and perfectly spiced. I would come here again for brunch or a nice, quiet dinner to unwind.

I was THRILLED to find this place next to my new office. One of the biggest bummers moving from Altamonte to Lake Mary was not being able to eat at Kohinoor for lunch anymore. Low and behold, this gem! It is THE SAME restaurant, same menu, just owned by the twin sister of the owner at Kohinoor! Cha-Ching!!! I hit he jackpot! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that here aren't too many too many tables and you often have to wait for a bit at lunchtime. And the onion chutney recipe here is just a little different from Kohinoor, and I prefer there's a little better. Aside from that, this place is amazingly delicious! They have THE BEST dipping sauces and chutneys for their fresh naan.

Excellent food, service. Been there for dinner, lunch and buffet.. Spiced to your desire and a hidden gem. Vegans will love this place. The funny thing is its next to a burger joint. All the fatties go there and you see them walk by while those of us whose pallet are more sophisticated as well as our health concerns go to Indian :). Absolutely outstanding food and service!

Great service, awesome food! The staff are very sweet, checked in with us throughout the meal. Especially the new waiter, he was so nice! They ran out of eggplant and ran across the street to buy more for our eggplant dish.

My husband and I had such an exceptional meal here. We were in the area and I looked to one of my Yelp Elite besties, Mia P., for foodie advice. I liked her review so we decided to give this place a try. Her review was pretty spot on. It is a quiet and rather intimate atmosphere. They really seem to take pride in their space because it is clean and every table was set with candles , glasses, plating and silverware. It was a much nicer restaurant than I was expecting. So I was pleasantly surprised. According to our server, they just changed ownership 2 months ago . Not that it matters but sounds like it hasn't had an effect on their food/service. My husband and I noticed the Special Dinner deal (dine in only) on the menu for 2 people for $37.95. If you are hungry, THIS is the way to go. Not only do you get the complimentary paper thin wafers (not sure of the name) served with the 3 kinds of chutney (tomato, cilantro/mint and tamarind) but you get your choice of soup (we each picked lentil) and a plate of appetizers (all chicken and veggie based fried samosas). As if that wasn't enough, we each got to pick an entrée from the list of vegetarian/lamb/chicken specialties. These come with basmati rice AND naan. I had the Chicken Bhuna which is tomato based and has flavors of fresh cilantro, garlic, ginger and lots of spice. My husband had the Chicken Korma which was a bit richer since it is cooked in an almond and cashew nut cream sauce. Don't be fooled by the small bowls the food is served in as they are pretty deep. It was plenty of food which meant plenty of leftovers! And can you believe they throw in dessert in this deal too?! We had our pick of the 4 items on the menu so I went with the Gulab Jamun (fried dough served in a sugar water/honey mixture) while my husband had mango ice cream. For $37.95 plus tip, this is one heck of a deal and this place is the definition of a hidden gem! If you love Indian food and a great deal, I recommend checking this place out! They also mentioned a Lunch buffet during the week so if you're in the Lake Mary area, check them out instead of the usual Chipotle/Chick Fil A chain options .... P.S. Service was pretty phenomenal too.

I have been coming to this location for years and even have watched it change hands a few times, but it still is my favorite indian spot in central florida. We decided to come again for the lunch buffet and upon viewing the buffet things have definitely changed. The food options have widened and there was a lot more variety to choose from. They even included the best potato samosas I have ever tasted in the lunch special. We tried everything, the goat curry and tandoor chicken were incredibly tender and spiced perfectly and the naan was refreshed twice as we ate. They had chutneys and pickled onions and various other delicious sauces to adorn the already flavorful dishes. I didn't come across one thing that I didn't want seconds of! You can tell the chef takes pride in what he does, so this had me wondering what had changed... turns out the chef bought out the restauraunt as of a month ago and reinvented the menu. Also I must note the great service, our waiter was attentative and cordial. I liked this location, but now I love it. In fact I am planning my next visit!

Can everyone say "Yay for (cheap) Indian Buffet"? I came here for lunch - the buffet had great selection of food, including my favorites, saag paneer and that red roasted chicken.. and butter chicken, oh! and gulab jamun.. balls of deliciousness!..... they had a lot of chutneys and sauces and salad. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The naan could use slightly more baking in my opinion, but it is fresh. The place is clean, and it was pretty crowded when we got there about 12:20 or so. Last, it was only $10! nice!

My boyfriend and I dined here on a Monday and had the most wonderful feast for 2 for under $40! I admit I loved it a bit more than my boyfriend did, but I think it's cuz he tried to branch out and try something new: Rogan Josh. It was a bit too cumin-y for our taste, but the Butter Chicken I got is *the best* I've had besides the one from Sanaa on Disney property. This Butter Chicken was DELICIOUS in every way, not too watery, and just yum. The servers here were both American which is something I haven't experienced before at an Indian restaurant and when I asked ours what his favorite dish on the menu was, he said, "everything is delicious, there's not one thing I would steer you away from." That response always annoys me and makes me think they either don't eat here or aren't passionate about food and it's of absolutely no help to me, the first timer. For dessert I got the rice pudding and boyfriend got pistachio ice cream which he said was better than the Haagen Daz one he has at home so that's good. I would be returning tonight but looks like they're closed Sundays. Definitely try it out when you're in the area!

I've never been a huge fan of buffets but this was highly recommended and it was very fresh and delicious for $9.95. Will definitely come back! You can also order from the menu but the buffet is the best deal.

FANTASTIC. Food is always fresh and delicious. The restaurant (and restrooms) are very clean. Service is extremely fast and very friendly. Their weekend lunch deals are ridiculously good. Around $8 for a samosa, entree and dessert. My absolute favorite over all other local establishments.

I went online and ordered takeout. Because I had never been there before, I decided to call and find out how long it would take for my order was ready. Good choice. When I called, a nice gentleman let me know that their online ordering system which sent faxes to them about every order was not working. There was no notification on the website regarding this glitch. My disappointment was quickly extinguished. My order was ready when I arrived in 20 minutes. The interior of the restaurant is pleasant and quiet. There's a distinct odor of curry in the air, which is appetizing, providing that you enjoy curry. Of course, if you do not enjoy curry then what are you doing in an Indian restaurant? Everything was still piping hot when I got home. I ordered channa masala: Chick peas cooked with onions, potatoes, cumin and a variety of spices. The Fish Korma was my favorite and I liked the sauce made from almonds and cashews. Savory and slightly sweet. But, I should've ordered the dishes mild instead of medium spicy. My mouth was burning still after about 10 minutes. Thankfully, I had ordered the rice pudding made with coconut milk. The only problem with the rice pudding was the amount. It was generous enough for $4.50, but too small to kill all of the heat from the other dishes. I am a happy happy aftersampling their tasty dishes. We will still have enough of everything except the rice pudding for tomorrow.

To Indian-food cravers in the Orlando-area: If my wife and I could give this restaurant 6/5 stars for our experience tonight, we certainly would. In brief, the owner, Brian, set the bar in terms of service, food quality, and generosity for any dining experience - let alone for Indian cuisine. Given our borderline addiction to Indian food, we're proud to say that we've found our favorite Indian spot in the Orlando area. The food quality and quantity was ideal for a dinner date for two. We ordered Shaan's chicken tikka masala, which was absolutely delicious. We coupled our entrees with tasty orders of peshwari and garlic naan. Moreover, we found our glasses always full. To top it all off, the genuine kindness and class of the owner made my wife and I feel like we've known him for our entire lives, despite him apparently taking over ownership of the restaurant in the last few weeks. His giving spirit makes you want to get to know him immediately. We will gladly and excitedly give Shaan our business and enjoy their incredible food and service as soon as our next Indian food craving hits us. Truly, Adam and Rachael

We came here for Indian lunch buffet on a Saturday. The cost was about $13 per person. The restaurant was decorated nicely. It looked very clean just from walking in. Their food selections were very standard compare to other Indian restaurants. They have tandoori chicken, curry chicken, naan, sweet balls for dessert, veggie curry and few other items. One of my favorites was the tandoori chicken. I love the clay oven smell and taste of the chicken. It was flavorful and the chicken was very tender. Sometimes the chicken can be very dry, but definitely not this one. I also like all their other curry dishes. Nothing was over salted or greasy. I do wish they have different naans such as garlic naan or the naan with nuts and fruits. The service was good. Our water was filled all the time. The waiter came to check on us several times. I see the owner or the chef came out to check on/refill the food multiple times as well. I would give it a try again to see if they are always consistent in their food.

Hit or miss. Indian buffets can be hit or miss. Sometime the food is good and the restaurant sketchy; sometimes it's the opposite. Shaan was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant is clean with lots of light from the large windows, and bright lights illuminating the corners and the buffet in back. I didn't have any sense they were trying to hide something. The buffet was okay, overall. With only a few items, twelve-to-fifteen including the dessert and salad, there was a nice selection of meat and meatless dishes. The paneer tandoori and the channa masala were good. The flavors really came through. The butter chicken and daal were boring, with not much flavor, as was the rice pudding. The naan and gulab were both okay. Still, because we were only sampling items, it's difficult to say if we had the best of the batch. The advantage of a buffet is being able to sample a variety of dishes; the disadvantage is not knowing if it's representative of the non-buffet and non-lunch menu. I still feel the same way, but Shaan is better than most. There were things I don't often see on an Indian buffet, and that made it kind of fun and worth another trip. And the service? No complaints there -- he was friendly, funny, efficient, and helpful.

Update: Now under new ownership. Still wonderful food and super friendly staff. They are willing to work with you on creating a dish that works for you. We had a vegetarian dish and a chicken dish. Both were perfect. The atmosphere was nice and cozy. Very nicely decorated. Give it a try for dinner, as well as the buffet at lunch. Great selection for vegetarians and meat eaters.

Shaan is the best indian place I have been to in central Florida. The buffet is small, maybe a dozen items or so, but the selections are great. Their butter chicken is creamy and flavorful, their channa masala is pretty solid, and their tandoori chicken is the best I have had anywhere, ever. Most places, the tandoori gets pretty dry; here, they cook it perfectly where you get all the amazing flavor of the tandoori spices and the moist, delicious textures of a properly cooked piece of chicken. The service is good here, too; my drinks are kept filled and dirty dishes are removed quickly from tables. This is somewhat of a rarity for many buffet places I have been to. I've been several times, and to get there I drive past a few other indian places on Lake Mary blvd on my way.

Stopped in for lunch with my lovely wife today. The pleasant and familiar aroma of a blend of Indian cooking spices welcomed us as soon as we stepped in. The host, hostesses, and servers were amazingly efficient and pleasant. They were all quite bent on making sure we had the best dining experience. My wife had lamb off the menu; I opted for the buffet. Both were priced at $9.95. Awesome flavor explosions, and quality of ingredients. The tea was amazing. We will definitely be back. Thanks Shaan - awesome job all around!

Got the butter chicken lunch special. Great price, fast service, and very tasty. My mom got the lamb curry and that was also really good. The lunch special comes with samosas, naan, dessert, and it costs about 9 bucks. I will definitely be coming here again!!

I rarely write reviews. But I have to say, the food is absolutely fabulous, just like the standard from their other restaurant in Altamonte Springs. Well done guys, way, way better than the competitors in the area. Good luck and I hope you stay many, many years! ap

Hmmm. How to start? Well I generally don't expect great things from a buffet but I've been to Indian restaurants from coast to coast and I have family that hails from that part of the world. I've eaten a ton of curry in my life and I look forward to a good Indian meal when I see one. This was not a great experience. The service was good but lets face it they don't have to do much in this setting. Very friendly and attentive though. The interior has been updated a little since Darbar was at this location before. The food......meh. Nothing was bad but it pretty much all tasted like they made it from a mix. I'm certain the mint chutney and onion chutneys are a frozen product anyone can get from Spice World around the corner. The mango pickle was forgettable. The tandoori chicken was moist but boring. The saag paneer was bland and under spiced. The goat curry could of been great as it had a ton of goat but the brown sauce was muddy in flavor and the goat was really bland. The chicken masala/butter chicken tasted just like the "simmer sauce" you can buy at Publix. And the veggie curry was an afterthought. The cabbage curry however was bright and fresh tasting. I didn't try the eggplant as I hate eggplant but it looked better and fresher than everything else on the buffet combined. Wish I like the stuff. The naan was made ahead of time and occupied a tray at the end of the table, deflated and sad. I like it when Indian buffets bring out fresh naan after you've gotten your food. It's a nice touch that takes maybe 2 minutes to bake. It's $12.95 for the weekend lunch buffet but I'd say it merits a $7.99 to $9.99 price tag. Sorry guys but I probably won't be back. There's just nothing here that merits a return trip.

I love this place! My wife and I have eaten here about once a week since it opened and it's always awesome! The food is great and the staff is always super-friendly. The lunch buffet is amazing and the take out (which we get often) is always the same delicious food that you get when you dine-in! The Mixed Vegetable Curry and Butter Chicken are our favorites, my 3 year old son loves them also and has been eating Indian food since he was 6 months old! The restaurant is always clean and we always have an incredibly positive experience whenever we eat at Shaan, It's by FAR the best Indian food in Lake Mary and I've tried them all, I highly recommend it!
